Not something you do every day…

Office space planning, office refurbishment

Committing to an office refurbishment scheme can be daunting, especially if it’s your first time…

Space planning your office is not just about how your furniture will fit in; one common issue we come across is having the wrong number of people in specific areas often for historic reasons. For example; The Accounts department occupy a small space but need to recruit two additional staff which will leave them more than a little cramped, whilst the Sales team who reside in a much larger space do not necessarily come into the office every day and yet they have ‘full time’ desks which sit empty for 80% of the time. A simple swap of areas and an element of hot desking can reduce the pressure on space.

Even within rooms, the optimum layout of the office furniture can sometimes be scuppered by availability of light or a lack of power sockets. Adding a couple of new sockets, positioning desks near windows or adding an additional light fitting however would soon remedy this situation.

Storage also needs to be considered… We understand that in some organisations there is a need to retain large amounts of information, either for reference or legal purposes, but in many cases this can really overload the working area. Yet when staff are questioned, the percentage of stored material that has to be ‘at their fingertips’ compared to that which they retain ‘just in case’ and refer to once in a blue moon is very low. The latter could therefore be archived, which in itself is normally a significant space saver.
