Whitespace were contacted with regard to creating an independent learning plaza for St Mary’s school in Blackpool. Whitespace partnered with architects to create ‘a space for personalised learning’. The brief was to create a relaxed, quiet formal study area as well as a space that would encourage social interaction.
Working closely with the architects we created a space giving them the ‘wow’ factor, a space that is fully flexible and where small groups and individuals have the space to work but can also be merged in to larger groups. See the designs here.
We installed a central curtain to create a space for small to medium size classes; the curtain can be completely pulled back and concealed within a false partition wall to allow use of the space as a whole. Free standing screens were also used to create privacy; these are completely mobile and flexible. The room really demonstrates how a space can be divided up into different learning zones using furniture.
The space also includes an independent quiet learning zone which provides desk space for a laptop, PC or study use, ideal when the individual requires private space, but not complete isolation.
Colourful soft seating was also introduced to create a more relaxed environment, encouraging social interaction depending on how they are positioned in the space.
St Mary’s are delighted with their new space which is now in full use by all!!
