Lander Road Primary School

Lander Road is a Community Primary School based in Liverpool. As a school they aim to provide a welcoming, secure, stimulating and caring environment in which to learn. Having introduced the Accelerated Reader Programme and looking to achieve the Reading Quality Mark by the end of the academic year, they approached us to refurbish their existing library spaces.

The brief was to design areas that would be vibrant, fun and inspirational and develop the students love for reading.

Criteria such as book capacity and flexibility of space were carefully thought through ensuring the end result was a complete success… Concentrating on the woodland theme we were able to introduce some bespoke feature wall graphics to compliment the overall scheme.

The main library space is now a mix of bespoke and standard products, with a tiered soft seating area along with a flexible furniture solution; stackable chairs, mobile tables and funky beanbags, all of which enhance the relaxed feel. Additional features include fixed bookcases to the perimeter of the room, enabling to school to accommodate their vast book collection. Completing the look of this space, the school colours were introduced in the upholstery and furniture selections.

Previously the adjacent corridor was underutilized; optimizing the space we took the opportunity to incorporate two reading areas which would mirror the main library. Bespoke curved bookcases and comfortable banquette style seating deliver defined zones, yet still provide an open feel. Continuing with the woodland theme the green carpeting gives the illusion of grass.

We are extremely proud to be part of this exceptional school, helping them to provide a positive climate for learning… When asked why they chose Whitespace, Liz Foreman the Assistant Head replied “Because their designs were more creative than others we had seen and their customer service was excellent”

The newly refurbished library was recently opened by Jamie Carragher, retired Liverpool and England footballer.
