Positive Hearing Retail Unit – Macclesfield
Deafness Support Network
Formed in 1974, Deafness Support Network is the charitable service provider organization for D/deaf people in the county of Cheshire and the surrounding areas.
We were recently appointed to design, install and furnish their new social enterprise initiative, the ‘Positive Hearing’ retail unit at their Macclesfield site. The centre offers high-end specialist equipment, advice and guidance to the D/deaf community.
Our brief was to create a modern, contemporary sales and consultancy area to showcase individual manufacturer’s products.
Following an extensive consultation process, we developed an interior design that encompassed all of the clients ‘wish list’. Although looking for the ‘wow’ factor when entering the space, the client also wanted it to be welcoming and comfortable for staff and visitors. We needed to consider the practicalities of running what could potentially be a busy retail unit, but yet create the right ambiance in what can be a sensitive consultancy area. Our focus was on accessibility and customer experience, whilst also promoting the products available within the store.
Our knowledge of designing bespoke furniture allowed us to deliver a DDA compliant sales counter and consultation area, with an integrated glass topped drawer unit. As well as providing secure storage for small items of equipment, it also allows customers to view them easily, whilst keeping them free from dust.
A stylish ‘point-of-sale’ display cabinet opening out into the retail unit also provides a link to the office reception area, giving staff a clear view of the store. Eye catching multi-coloured shelving to showcase individual branded products and low level push-to-release drawer units enhance the space. We introduced neutral flooring and walls to compliment the overall area, completing the look with corporate signage in the form of vinyl graphics.
We have created an attractive, quality retail environment that supports the future growth of the brand, with all works completed on time and to a high standard to which the client was extremely pleased, so much so that they are looking to roll out the scheme at their other branches.
Deafness Support Network is a charitable organization and relies on donations, legacies and various fund raising activities to be able to provide this great service. Losing your hearing can be devastating, but there are ways you can help… Take a look at the DSN website www.dsnonline.co.uk for more information.
“I chose Whitespace because I believed they had the right mind set and company ethos to work with us in all of our future projects and expansion of our new retail outlet. It helped that they have a great eye for design and the project quotes were very inspiring and reflected our brand and style as an organisation. I am looking forward to working with them in the future. The professionalism and delivery of services were pretty much perfect and would have no qualms about recommending or using them again.” Mike Maloney – Positive Hearing (DSN)
