Wienerberger

With 229 plants in 27 countries, Wienerberger is the world’s largest manufacturer of bricks; they offer UK customers one of the broadest product portfolios in the business.

Initially invited to relocate and redesign their reception area at their UK Head Office in Cheadle, Cheshire; the design process soon developed to include the design and build of a post room and stores area.

The first step was to relocate the reception function into the open plan atrium at the main entrance of the building. Our brief was to provide an environment that was welcoming, functional and consistent with their corporate image.

As a result of extensive space planning, we introduced a bespoke, curved reception desk. Our experience in bespoke furniture allowed us to design a reception desk that, as well as being fully compliant with all current legislation, also provided the ‘wow’ factor. Feature flooring, using the corporate colour scheme was fitted to direct traffic to different parts of the building and due to the size of the space; a supplementary heating system was required. This included an over door warm air curtain and individual heaters behind the desk. Privacy film was added to the external glazing, so that the rear of the reception was hidden from view. The openness of the space meant that the co-ordination of styles and finishes were critical to the success of this project.

Once the reception was successfully relocated, we were able to modify the remaining space and turn it into a secure store and extended post room.

We designed and installed a variety of office storage solutions to the store room; racking for bulky items, tambour units for smaller items and bespoke storage racks for product samples. Wienerberger were so impressed with the bespoke option that they asked us to replicate the system in a meeting room and a Director’s office.

To support the vast amount of post going in and out of the business on a daily basis, we were also asked to design and build an improved post room. This included a dedicated pigeon hole system for the post, along with a separate area for binding and franking equipment.

The project was carried out whilst the building was occupied, involving sensitive coordination of the works to ensure the business remained operational throughout.

The end result provides the perfect foundation for this world class company. www.wienerberger.co.uk
