Heads in books and sleepless nights – can only mean one thing…

Exam season is well underway!

Whether it’s GCSEs, A-Levels or even end of term exams, most students will either have their heads stuck in a book doing last minute revision or actually sitting exams right now.

But, did you know that just as important as it is to study hard and do well in exams, it’s also equally as important that students take frequent breaks away from books and the classroom environment…

So, do you have adequate areas within your school or college environment where students can go to chill out and relax?

We are finding that social spaces are becoming a popular inclusion in secondary schools, academies and colleges. However, the ideal social space means different things to different people – for some it’s a place to relax and socialise in; whereas to others it’s somewhere they can have a little quiet time and study if they wish. That’s why education establishments often find it difficult to create such a space.

Creating better places for learning…

That’s where we come in… Having worked with many schools and colleges over the years, we’ve got to know what works and what doesn’t. In our opinion you should look to create an area that is different from the classroom; the space needs to be comfortable and flexible, with the ability to be reconfigured to different layouts should the need arise. Plenty of natural light and a bright colourful décor always goes down well, as does the provision of entertainment; for example table tennis or foosball tables. But, above all the space must be designed with the pupils in mind, so why not ask them what they would like…

As students’ demand for a better learning environment increases and competition from other education establishments intensifies, isn’t it time you did some revision of your own? We hope a look at some of our recent work in schools, will give you inspiration for what may be possible. We have considerable experience in a number of schools and colleges across the North West and would be delighted to advise what may work best for you and your students.
