But, are you finding staff sitting at their desks already dreading the day ahead? Or maybe that’s just you! The problem may not be the heavy workload; it could be the drab interior design

So, today, in honour of Valentine’s Day, we’d like to share our tips to help you and your staff fall in love with your office again…

  • Utilise your space effectively; ensure employees have enough room to work, move around comfortably and that departments and people that need to be near each other are.
  • Furniture can often portray an image of a company; it should be in good repair and fit for purpose. Operator chairs should be adjustable so that employees can find their most comfortable working position.
  • Provide adequate storage, this will ensure that the office looks tidy and gives the impression that the company is organized and efficient.
  • Having suitable office lighting will not only enhance your workplace it can also have a significant effect on how your employees feel and perform. Where possible introduce natural daylight to your workspace.
  • Temperature should be constantly maintained at a certain level to ensure that people can work to their full potential without feeling too hot or too cold. An office interior can look stunning and have all the latest equipment but if the heating and ventilation needs are not met then it could affect the comfort and productivity of your staff.
  • Persistent background noise can be disruptive and have a major impact on morale and efficiency. Look at installing partitions, acoustic screens and other sound masking systems to help quieten noisy offices.
  • Encourage staff to take a break from their desk by introducing a breakout area. This will improve concentration and circulation and, if they are screen users, reduce eye strain.
  • Give staff control – Complete lack of control over their working environment can have a negative effect on employee well-being. So, allow them to have the odd tasteful photo or other personal items on their desk.
  • Add a touch of colour to your workspace; it is often a low cost but effective way to change the feel of a room. Although take care when choosing colours; having bright contrasting shades might look good in a PR Agency, would they have the same effect in a Solicitor’s office?
