School Reception Areas

It’s a fact, you don’t often get a second chance to make a good impression – reception areas are the places where you can make it a lasting one…

Every reception area whether it’s in business or education should provide a warm welcoming, comfortable feel. Yet the experience in most of the reception areas we encounter on a day to day basis is quite the opposite.

Creating bespoke working environments…

School reception areas are the heart of a school or college, it’s the first place that visitors see on entering the premises, and presents an opportunity to provide students, and parents with a feel for the learning environment as a whole. The task of redesigning a reception area might seem a tough job for the inexperienced, but with the right knowledge and guidance from the experts it can be easier than you think…

That’s where we come in! At Whitespace we have successfully delivered a number of refurbishment projects for schools and colleges throughout the North West, from classrooms, washrooms, staff areas and social spaces, to complete building refurbishments. We understand that school reception areas need to provide a welcoming yet vibrant feel to those entering the premises. With the right desk, storage, lighting, flooring, soft seating and décor, even the most dull school reception area can be transformed.

A key feature of this area is the reception desk and its location. Generally the reception desk performs two essential roles, to parents and other visitors it should reflect the school’s image and ethos, but it also needs to be a fully functioning workstation. The overall height of the desk should provide privacy for the receptionist, but at the same time remain welcoming. A combination of high and low level counters will help to ensure that it is DDA compliant. It should be positioned so that the receptionist has a clear view of all visitors and if it the reception opens directly to the outdoors, the desk should be positioned where it won’t be vulnerable to drafts in the winter. We are able to offer many varied solutions, from a huge range of standard furniture options as well as bespoke solutions.
